British resident dies in motorcycle accident (Updated)

A British resident was found dead on the side of the road in Yeroskipou in Paphos in the early hours of Sunday, believed to be the result of a motorcycle accident, the Cyprus News Agency reported.

The 24-year-old was found by a passing motorist lying next to his motorbike on Constantine Palaeologos Street at around 2am.

He was taken to Paphos hospital by ambulance but was pronounced dead by doctors on arrival. He had sustained serious head and other injuries.

Police are investigating the cause of the accident. They said in an announcement later it appeared the 24-year-old had lost control of the bike and veered off the road on to the pavement where the vehicle overturned.

The police report said the victim had not been wearing a helmet.  They are appealing for any witnesses to the accident. The public should call 1460 if they have any information.
