Man tried to bribe two policemen to ditch drink driving test

A Nicosia man has been charged with trying to bribe two police officers with 100 euros each after he was brought in for a drink driving blood test, police said on Sunday.

The man, 42, was detained on Saturday during a routine check on Limassol Avenue in Latsia, when his breathalyser test came back at 71mg instead of the legal limit of 22mg.

He was taken to police traffic headquarters for a definitive blood test where police said he tried to bribe the two officers with 100 euros each to ditch the test.

He was then arrested on that charge and the 200 euros was taken as evidence.

Police said he then copped to the attempted bribery and was charged and released to appear in court at a later date.
