The fire service rescued eight sheep which were trapped in sludge near an abandoned pig farm in Orounda village in the Nicosia district on Sunday.

The sludge was created by the discharge of sewerage from the abandoned pig farm into a small dried-up lake, in which the sheep became trapped.

Using salvage equipment, members of the fire service from Peristerona and Nicosia pulled the sheep out.

The fire service warned that it was the responsibility of each property owner to avoid endangering the safety of the public.
