British soldier detained over illegal air gun

A British soldier, aged 19 was arrested at Larnaca airport on Monday night after an airgun was found in his hand luggage.

The soldier, employed by the British bases was having his bag scanned at around 7pm at the fragile baggage department, when an object resembling a gun was found, police said.

On-duty officers opened the hand luggage in his presence and found a Colt Automatic Caliber45 as well as a packet of pellets.

Asked if he had a licence to transport and carry a gun, he said no and was arrested for illegal possession and transport of an airgun.

The soldier was due to fly to London.

The British bases said they would let the legal process take its course and would take any action accordingly.
