Dozens of birds and rabbits die in farm fire, arson suspected

What police believe was an an arson attack at a Dromolaxia farm burned hundreds of hay bales and dozens of animals including chickens and rabbits on Monday night at around 10:20pm.

Kiti police station was alerted to the fire raging at a farm in the Dromolaxia industrial area.

The fire, which is believed to have been set maliciously started from a bale of hay. It killed 30 rabbits, 55 chickens, 54 pairs of doves, two turkeys and one goose.

Some 600 bales of hay were burnt. The owner told officers he did not have any differences with anyone and could not think of any suspects.

The total cost of the damage is approximately €2,600 and is not covered by insurance.
