A dangerous electric blanket is currently on the market in Cyprus, the department of electrical and mechanical services warned on Tuesday.

The MateStar blanket, model SSO&-0815, made in China and distributed by Stephanis does not comply with essential safety requirements, an announcement said. The consumer protection service warned that the risks to the user are substantive and serious there is a danger heat stroke.

Those who are in possession of the product are strongly urged not to use it. The blanket is also being withdrawn from the local market.

Anyone who needs information or clarifications on the consumer’s rights relating to a given product can communicate with the consumer protection service by phoning 1429 (consumer hotline).

Anyone who knows where the item is being sold or needs additional information is asked to communicate with the department of electrical and mechanical services by phone: 22800514 / 22800522, email: [email protected] or fax 22348202.
