Changes to secondary education

Cabinet on Monday approved an education ministry proposal upgrading technical and vocational education for secondary school students.

Aiming to offer better career options, it outlines a review of the specialties offered to the students based on the needs and prospects of Cyprus’ economy.

Students will be able to choose a specialty from the first year and have more time for placements between June and August.

The proposal also aims to modernise the timetables, limiting the number of exam subjects students in technical and vocational schools will have to take to enter higher education.

The new system is expected to be implemented in the next academic year.
