Man arrested over wife’s heart-attack death

A 46-year-old man was arrested Wednesday night in connection to the death of his 46-year-old estranged wife.

The woman was found unconscious at around 5.20am on Wednesday by her colleagues at the old people’s home in Nicosia where she was working. A state pathologist called to the scene pronounced her dead.

The post mortem of the woman, carried out by state pathologist Angeliki Papetta, suggested the death had been the result of a heart attack.

But despite the autopsy’s findings, an arrest warrant was issued against the woman’s estranged husband, police spokesman Andreas Angelides said.

He was brought in for questioning after elderly people hosted at her workplace reported that they heard him and the woman argue Tuesday night.

When questioned, the man reportedly admitted he had pushed the 46-year old woman during their argument and that she had fallen on the ground. He is to appear before court on Thursday.

Nicosia CID continues investigations.
