The jazzy kind of Christmas

By Maria Gregoriou

If you are a Eurovision Song Contest watcher and fan you will surely remember the Cypriot singer who represented us back in 1987 with the song Aspro Mavro (White and Black), along with the big earrings and shoulder pads.

A long time has passed since then and the singer, Alexia Vassiliou, has moved on from the pop scene and has entered a much jazzier phase.

A graduate of the Berklee College of Music, she will give a Jazzy Christmas performance on Tuesday in Limassol with a selection of Christmas songs from the 30s all the way up to the 70s, but all jazzed up with a little more sparkle.

But of course, that’s not all, Vassiliou will also perform some of her favourite songs that go with any season.
She will be accompanied by two young local musicians: Andreas Panteli on keyboards and Ermis Michael on electric guitar.

Alexia – A Jazzy Christmas
Live performance by the Greek singer with Christmas songs and jazz songs from the 30s to 70s. December 22. Tracasol Cultural Centre, Limassol Marina. 8.30pm. €20/10. Tel: 25-372855
