Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu has invited AKEL leader Andros Kyprianou to Istanbul this month to exchange views on the Cyprus issue, CyBC reported on Saturday.
The report said the invitation was extended through the Turkish Cypriot chief negotiator Ozdil Nami.
Speaking to CyBC, Kyprianou, said the visit would be a good chance to learn first-hand about the Turkish stance on key aspects of the Cyprus problem.
Besides Cavusoglu, Kyprianou would also meet other Turkish government officials, the report said.
AKEL said in July that Kyprianou would accept an invitation from Cavusoglu if such an invitation was extended after the Turkish foreign minister stated his intention in an interview published in Milliyet newspaper of inviting the leftist party leader to Turkey.
“AKEL’s general secretary will respond positively to convey the standing principled positions of the Greek Cypriot side on the Cyprus settlement as set by the National Council, ” the party said in an announcement at the time.
