Consumer watchdog slams Paphos cafe rip-off

A COMMENT on social media regarding a receipt for €41.15 for three sandwiches and water posted by Loucas Aristodemou, chairman of the Cyprus consumers union and quality of life, quickly gained popularity on Thursday.

The items were paid for on Wednesday in a Paphos café.

“It is unbelievable,” Aristodemou said, “I don’t like to see this as a unionist, nor as a Cypriot. It is against us and tourism and the development of the economy. And unfortunately this is not the only place.”

“What more can I say than what the receipt clearly shows? We are talking about a slice of cheese, a slice of ham and two slices of bread.”

The chairman believes, however, that people are fed up with what’s happening.

“Our facebook group had 15,500 members before the post, but today alone there were 300 requests to join with more than 130 comments,” he added.
