Top US Treasury official to discuss Cyprus solution financing

Daleep Singh

The US Department of Treasury’s Deputy Assistant Secretary for Europe and Eurasia, Daleep Singh, will travel to Cyprus from January 11-13, the embassy in Nicosia announced on Monday.

Singh will meet with members of the Technical Committee on Economy, non-governmental organisations, academics, international organistions, and others “to learn more about the potential economic challenges and opportunities of reunification of the island”, the embassy said.

“The U.S. government strongly supports the ongoing negotiations, as a solution to the long-standing division of the island would benefit the economy of Cyprus and provide opportunities for all Cypriots,” it added.

Singh will also meet with Finance Minister Harris Georgiades, Deputy Minister to the President Constantinos Petrides, and Central Bank authorities to discuss Cyprus’s continuing economic recovery.
