Rembetiko favourites given a twist

By Maria Gregoriou

If you love listening to music that doesn’t strictly follow one genre, if you get energised by going to a great live performance and if you love the sound of old rembetiko songs with a modern twist, then you know we are talking about the Greek band Imam Baildi.

The eight member band, which celebrated the release of a new album around this time last year, are back to give more of that good vibe sensation on Friday in Nicosia and on Saturday in Limassol.

The band – Orestis and Lysandros Falireas, Alexis Arapatsakos, Giannis Diskos, Periklis Aliopis, Lambis Kountourogiannis, Stelios Provis, MC Yinka, and Rena Morfi – never tire of making those good old Greek songs sound refreshed and ready to take on any kind of hip-hop rhythm.

As the band’s name suggests, it mixes up different tastes to create one harmonious beat. These beats were first recorded in the group’s debut album, which was released in 2007.
The self-titled album was very well received and since then the band has given many live performances in Greece and Europe.

Catch them while you can because after hitting the Cypriot stage, they will be on their way to Amsterdam, Luxembourg and Rotterdam.
