This beautifully renovated house in the centre of Paphos opened as a brunch establishment just a few months ago. However, due to prolonged delays in obtaining a licence from the CTO, it is not as yet serving food, something which the owners expect to be rectified by the end of this month. So for now a drink will have to do.
At first glance, Omikron could be mistaken for an upmarket kafeneio, as the outside tables are often frequented by groups of men, a mistake I initially made before friends visited and informed me otherwise.
Situated opposite the main CYTA building, it’s easy to tell that one of the owners is an interior designer as the project looks as if it’s ready for a high class magazine shoot and attention to detail is faultless.
Old style doors have been sourced from Nicosia to match existing ones and there is an overall ‘old meets new’ inspired design throughout.
There is a warm and welcoming feel as you enter this lovely old building, and the smell of freshly ground and brewed coffee is extremely appealing.
Although brunches, which I was informed will include eggs, sausages, delicious sandwiches, smoked salmon and other hot options, are yet to get underway, a selection of pastries, cakes and muffins are currently a welcome accompaniment to a selection of hot and cold beverages.
Open from 7am until 10pm, the atmosphere changes as the sun goes down and Omikron is considering serving good quality wine and perhaps platters in the evenings, once the license is up and running. Initially ‘brunch’ will be served from 7am until 4pm.
Special events will be held at Omikron, which is also a proud supporter of Pafos 2017 (the town’s winning bid for the upcoming joint cultural capital of Europe), as large stickers on the glass exterior wall depict.
This is an appealing place to enjoy a coffee, or hot chocolate-which is creamy and delicious.
Omikron is well designed and sleek and not in the least pretentious. It’s a place to meet friends, hold informal business meetings, complete work on your laptop in a quiet corner, or just to unwind and relax.
