Man sought in connection with supermarket shooting

Police have issued an arrest warrant for Stavros Benakis, 23, from Nicosia, in connection with the shooting of a 45-year-old man outside a supermarket in Anthoupoli, Nicosia, on Friday afternoon.

Giving out a picture of the suspect, police urged anyone with information on his whereabouts to contact the Nicosia CID at 22802222, or the nearest police station, or the citizens’ hotline at 1460.

According to a police report, the shooting incident took place at 7.20pm, and followed a heated argument between the two men.

Police sources believe that the victim was part of a drug exchange gone bad.

The victim was shot at four times, receiving two wounds in the arm. He was rushed to Nicosia General hospital in his car, where he remains in stable condition after surgery.
