Cyprus ranks 10th globally for percentage of foreigners in jail

Over half of Cyprus’ prison population is foreign, ranking the island in 10th place globally from almost 200 countries  for its incarceration rate of foreign nationals, according to data from the Institute for Criminal Policy Research.

Specifically, 53.2 per cent of the prison population is comprised of foreigners putting Cyprus below Greece and Liechtenstein with a 58.3 and 55.6 percentage rate respectively.

Topping the list are the United Arab Emirates with 92.2 per cent, Monaco at 89.7 per cent, Qatar at 74.5 per cent and Switzerland at 73 per cent.

Kiribati, Tuvalu, Tonga, Solomon Islands and the Cook Islands (New Zealand) are at the bottom of the 183 states with zero per cent.
