Two remanded as suspects in car theft and burglary

Paphos District Court

Two men aged 35 and 32 were remanded for eight days and two days respectively on Sunday by the Paphos court in connection with a spate of burglaries and car thefts in the district.

The court heard that the 35-year-old had been arrested on Saturday during a routine traffic stop in Yeroskipou. Checking the vehicle’s details, officers found that it bore false number plates and had been reported as stolen in December 2015 from the Paphos area.

A subsequent search of a premises rented by the 35-year-old revealed another vehicle without registration plates that also turned out to be stolen, police said. At his apartment, police said they found a number of items they believe were loot from various burglaries. They also found half a gramme of cannabis, they said.

Following the older man’s interrogation, police also arrested the 32-year-old later in the day on Saturday. At his apartment, police seized a gramme of cannabis and a number of electronic devices they suspect were stolen property.
