Woman dies from H1N1, first fatality in the Republic

The first death from H1N1, or ‘swine flu’ has been recorded in the Republic, health services said on Thursday.

The patient at the Nicosia General Hospital was a 51-year-old woman with a pre- existing medical conditions.  According to the health services, a total of 19 people have been infected with the virus in the government-controlled areas, 13 of whom have been discharged from hospital. The remaining five are in stable condition.

Two people have died in the north from the virus.

Authorities said on Thursday there was no cause for alarm or panic.
