Akinci told to rest to get over flu

Dujarric pointed out yet again that “the settlement in Cyprus is one that is up to the parties.

Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci needs to rest for a few days after coming down with the flu, his doctors said on Monday.

A meeting of the two Cypriot leaders scheduled for Monday has been postponed due to Akinci coming down with bronchitis, the Cyprus News Agency reported on Sunday.

But after visiting the hospital on Monday morning, the diagnosis was that Akinci had shown flu symptoms.

According to Yeni Duzen newspaper, after examining the Turkish Cypriot leader, doctors urged him to rest for a few days.

The hospital’s head doctor said his condition showed no cause for concern, and that he should be able to resume his normal schedule after a few days’ rest.

On Friday night the government spokesman had tweeted that the leaders’ meeting was postponed because the chief negotiators needed to have a preparatory meeting beforehand, and that a new date for Akinci to meet President Nicos Anastasiades would be fixed during that session.

Anastasiades’ programme issued on Sunday at 9am by the government press and information office had the leaders’ meeting scheduled for Monday morning at 10am. It was later amended to say the meeting was postponed.
