Get out.. and run

The weather man has said that the worst of the winter is over, so the time is right to get out there in nature and bond with it.

This Sunday the Cyprus Trail Runners will be running wild once again, this time taking in the breathtaking scenery of the Akamas Peninsula in Paphos.

The area is currently under threat by development and this is why the group has decided to make this the first run of the year. The group hopes that if more and more people get out there in the wild and have an up close and personal look at what future generations may have to do without, the more chances there are that more people will get involved in the preservation of such areas.

The race, which is supported by La Sportiva Cyprus, will follow recognised trails along a circular route of 18-19km. There will also be a shorter race of about 7km for those not wanting to stretch their legs quite that far.

The race will start at 10am but registration will begin at 8.30am, so it may be a good idea to stay somewhere in the area the night before – and get a weekend away out of it to.

Entry fee is €15 for the longer run and €5 for the shorter one. For those racing in the longer run, there will be a refreshment point about halfway round.

All runners must carry a mobile phone with them and a bottle of water. Also everyone who is taking part will receive a finishers’ award.
