Sexual abuse against minor case referred to criminal court

A 44-year-old man from the UK, charged with sexually abusing a minor, was on Tuesday referred to criminal trial.

The trial hearings will commence on March 24.

Until then, and in a departure from usual practice, Paphos district court ordered the man released on a €20,000 bond, but placed a number of restrictions.

The man has been put on a stoplist, he is to surrender his travel documents and must report daily to the Paphos police station.

The man had been arrested last week at Paphos airport upon his return from abroad.

He had been sought by police since late January when his 39-year-old now-ex partner, a permanent resident of Cyprus, reported that he had sexually abused her 11-year-old daughter from a previous marriage, between May and August 2015.
