Two officers injured in Paphos car chase

Two police officers were lightly injured on Tuesday night in Paphos while chasing after and trying to arrest an 18-year-old man who did not stop his car during a traffic control.

The incident occurred at around 10.35pm during a routine traffic stops by members of the Paphos police on Pltolemaidas street. Reportedly, officers signalled the 18-year old driver to pull over but he sped up instead and went through a red light.

He then entered a one-way street where police caught up with him.

However the driver of the police patrol car was injured when the suspect’s vehicle hit his, while both cars were slightly damaged. The 18-year-old, who allegedly resisted arrest, attacked and injured another officer.

He had no driver’s licence or insurance, and was arrested. He was expected to be charged in writing to appear before court at a later date.

The two officers, who suffered minor injuries were given first aid at Paphos hospital.
