Four arrested on sham marriage allegations

Four people, three women aged 26, 31, and 38, and a man aged 21 were arrested on Saturday evening on suspicion of trafficking for the purposes of sham marriages in Cyprus.

A police announcement on Sunday said the four were being investigated for trafficking in adult persons, facilitating illegal entry, abduction and attempting to arrange sham marriages.

According to police, the alleged offences took place during the months of December 2015 and February 2016 in Romania and Cyprus.
