Paphos bar torched

A bar in Paphos, owned by a 50-year-old businessman, was torched at dawn, while another establishment owned by the same man was doused in a flammable liquid but not set alight later in the day, police said on Tuesday.

According to a police report, a fire at the beachfront Splash Bar in Paphos was reported early on Tuesday morning. The bar had been closed over the last three months.

The bar, a 20-by-20 metre wood and metal structure, was completely destroyed by the fire, which police said was set deliberately.

No insurance had been taken out on the business.

Shortly before noon, while the bar’s owners were still estimating their losses from the arson, they realised that a second establishment they own nearby had been broken into and doused with a flammable liquid, but, for reasons as yet unknown, the burglars did not torch.
