Masterclass opportunity with renowned violinist

YOUNG violinists in Cyprus are being offered the opportunity to participate in a masterclass with world renowned violinist Salvatore Accardo in March.
The closing date for auditions is Monday February 29 at 3pm, said Antigoni Antoniou, the managing officer of the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra Foundation.
“The auditions are open to any violin student from any public or private educational programme or institution,” said Antoniou. “Any young violinists under the age of 20, who are in a position to present a high level repertoire, will be considered as candidates.”
Constantia Elia, an administrative officer of the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra Foundation said that successful participants would benefit hugely from participation in the masterclass.
“Salvatore Accardo is one of the most internationally famous violinists in the world and it will be an inspiring experience for the successful young musicians. They will each spend around an hour with him, and benefit from general guidance, performance techniques, as well as technique with specific pieces.”
Salvatore Accardo, 74, is an Italian violinist and conductor, who is known for his interpretations of the works of Niccolò Paganini. He gave his first professional recital in 1954 at the age 13, and studied violin in Naples in the 1950s.
Accardo plays regularly with leading orchestras and directors all over the world, he performs solo concerts and also recitals as conductor; in this role he has recorded extensively, most notably with London Philarmonia Orchestra.
The Cyprus Youth Symphony Orchestra – CyYSO – was established 25 or so years ago, and has more than 80 members who have been selected through auditions. The CyYSO is a member of the European Federation of National Youth Orchestras, and has given hundreds of concerts in Cyprus and abroad.
Next month’s masterclass is being organised by CyYSO in collaboration with the cultural services of the ministry of education.
Selection will take place on Saturday, March 5 at the Ethnikon Odeion Kyprou, AyiosDometios, in Nicosia.
