Denia mosque repaired

The damage caused to the roof of the mosque in Denia by arsonists on February 21 has been repaired, the interior ministry announced on Wednesday.

On the instructions of Interior Minister Socratis Hasikios, work began immediately on the previously restored the 19th century building and the cost was borne by the government. It had been restored three years ago under the auspices of the bi-communal Technical Committee for Cultural Heritage and the UNDP.

The arson attack was widely condemned by both sides in Cyprus but the culprits were never caught. It was not the first time the mosque in Denia had been targeted by vandals.
