Bloody personal items found in missing man search

Cyprus police rescue helicopter

Authorities were on Thursday searching for a 70-year-old man who went missing from the area around Souni village in the Limassol district.

The man, a British national and permanent resident of Cyprus, was last seen shortly before noon near Souni.

Search parties were mounted comprising personnel from the police, the fire department, civil aviation and the Sovereign Bases Areas.

Police said the man’s wristwatch and shoes were found in a country road in the afternoon. The items were stained with blood.

Earlier, the man had been spotted holding a knife.

According to a police bulletin, the man suffers from bipolar disorder and is on medication.

The search was continuing throughout the night.
