Omonia deny AEL place in playoffs

Omonia ended the regular season with a 4-2 win over AEL, denying the Limassol side a spot in the playoffs

Omonia beat AEL 4-2 in the final game of the regular season in the Cyprus football championship in Nicosia on Thursday afternoon, denying the Limassol side the final spot in the playoffs.

AEL got off to a great start, taking the lead through Arkadiusz Piech on the half-hour mark but Andraz Kirm equalised for Omonia just before half-time.

Kirm added a second after 57 minutes, with Ziguy Badibanga extending the lead to 3-1 with half an hour to go.

AEL pulled a goal back through Adnan Aganovic but Badibanga sealed all three points with his side’s fourth after 85 minutes.

Omonia finish the regular season in joint-fourth, while AEL – who could have overtaken Nea Salamina for the sixth and final playoff place with a win – ended up eighth.
