Gloria Gallery in Nicosia will present a solo painting and sculpture exhibition by Andreas Savvidis, opening on Tuesday at 7.30pm.
The coming together of this collection had a lot to do with the tense feelings and the energy that the materials the artist used seem to exude.
Speaking about art in general and his latest work, Savvidis said “the parallel features of dazzling light upon a dark background separates what seems to be from what is apparent, bringing to mind the theory thought up by Plato, the idea, the cosmic plans forgotten by God. The complex colours and designs highlight the social values changing in the search for the basic meaning, beyond the chaos of the everyday and the meaninglessness of it all.”
Savvidis, from Kyrenia, studied sculpture at St Martin’s School of Art and Chelsea School of Art in London. He worked as a teacher in secondary schools in Cyprus, at the Pedagogical Academy, the Pedagogical Institute, and the University of Cyprus.
The exhibition will be introduced by poet Neshe Yashin.
