Women on women

The first exceeded all expectations. So you certainly won’t want to miss the second – if you’re a woman, that is.

The YinAlithea Women’s Conference is just that – women speaking about women for women. Billed as “a Conference that empowers, educates and elevates the women of Cyprus”, YinAlithea is designed to “touch, move and inspire women to create a breakthrough in their personal and professional lives. With the collaboration and synergy at each Conference,” say organisers, “women gather momentum to re-design self-limiting myths and belief systems. This helps them to create, expand their personal and global transformation.”

Co-founded by clinical psychologist Heleniq Argyrou and motivational speaker (and published author) Penelope Magoulianiti, and under the auspices of the First Lady Mrs Anastasiades, YinAlithea will take place on March 19 and 20 at the Elias Beach Hotel. Over 15 speakers will be sharing their wisdom and experiences with the attendees, bringing empowerment, education and elevation to all the women of the island, without exception.

“YinAlithea is for everyone, every woman, regardless of status, job, background,” says Penelope. “It’s an opportunity for women to create a community of support and collaboration; to learn from each other, to become friends and network.” The conference, she adds, is the perfect example of this: collaborating with eight women’s organisations (including Women of Europe and the Cyprus Independent Business Network), YinAlithea aims to help and facilitate women wherever possible. “The women of Cyprus are ready to step up and follow their dreams,” she continues. “The last few years have been very hard on the people of the island, especially women, many of whom have lost their jobs, and it’s important to know there are lots of organisations out there that can help. Places where they can network, listen and learn. We’re passing on the message that it’s never too late to start something new.”

Through the medium of 16 female speakers, each of whom has overcome obstacles to become highly successful in their field, the conference aims to enlighten and inspire. “The programme is divided into five sections,” Penelope explains: “Women in Business, Personal Development, Health, Art and Abuse of Children.” Every one of the sections will be covered on both days – though by different speakers – allowing those who can only attend for one of the days to fully benefit from the wisdom being shared.

“All of our speakers are very successful women,” Penelope explains, “and each of them has had to overcome innumerable challenges to get to where they are today. Award-winning jeweller Myriam Soseilos, for example, has had a particularly remarkable journey, and her speech – entitled ‘Create, Transform and Be Transformed’ – will prove how perseverance pays off.” The three keynote speakers this year are Vice President of Top Kinisis Travel Elena Tanou (speaking on ‘Dare, Deal, Do the Unexpected’), Dean of the School of Business of Nicosia Professor Maria Michailides (who will be talking about ‘Balancing Work and Family Life’) and Anastasia Papadopoulou, the advisor for Hope for Children, who will be discussing sexual abuse and exploitation of minors.

Running alongside the speeches, the conference will also provide a diversity of workshops and entertainments: co-founder Heleniq Argyrou – an experienced sound and drum therapist – will lead an ensemble of frame drummers, as well as hosting workshop on ‘Your Dream Self and High Value Living’; Vicky Anastasiou is set to bring the ‘Vocal Choir The Amalgamation Project’ to the conference, and Maria Papacharalambous will present a workshop on ‘The Matrix & The Art of Good Living’.

“I believe that each woman who attends will find something to benefit from,” says Penelope. “There’s such a variety of content and variety of speakers, each with a different story. But the one thing they all have in common is their success. And this is what we want to pass on to the women of Cyprus: no matter how many setbacks or obstacles in your path, you can achieve success with the right tools and support. Many women,” she adds, “seem to give up when faced with failure; perhaps they’re afraid of failing once more, or are stuck in their comfort zone. But YinAlithea creates the tools and gives the examples which prove you can succeed at whatever you choose.

“Ultimately,” she says, “YinAlithea is about inspiring and empowering women to make a positive change to their lives. And, by extension, to the lives of those around them.”
