Councillors want Louroudjatis sign letter stating he refrains from duties

Louroudjiatis arriving at court on Sunday

LARNACA municipal council wants a signed declaration from mayor Andreas Louroudjiatis saying he will refrain from his duties until investigations against him are over, his deputy Petros Christodoulou said.

Municipal councillors raised the issue during a meeting on Wednesday night, where they said a letter Louroudjiatis sent them informing them of the fact was unsigned, Christodoulou added.

Their legal adviser recommended the mayor, who is currently on remand since Sunday over a waste management scandal, sign the letter.

The municipal secretary will on Thursday head to the police station to get Louroudjiatis to sign it.

Earlier this week, Interior Minister Socratis Hasikos sent a letter to the mayor asking him to refrain from his duties which extended beyond the municipality to chairman of the Koshi waste management plant.
