Paphos community leader arrested

Paphos court

The head of the community of Kourdaka, a small village in the Paphos district, was remanded in custody for six days on Tuesday on suspicion of corruption.

The 59-year-old was arrested in connection with forgery and obtaining money under false pretences.

Police said the suspect had been authorised by the Paphos Bishopric to collect donations for the construction of a church in the community, located between Houlou and Letymbou.

The Church gave the suspect a receipt book but according to police, it later transpired that he allegedly used other receipt books to collect donations, which he never declared.
