On Saturday, get ready to rock it out with the experimental rock band from Gothenburg in Sweden, Freak Kitchen.
Band members Mattias ‘IA’ Eklundh, on guitar and vocals, Bjorn Fryklund, on drums and vocals, and Christer Ortefors, on bass and also on vocals, have now reached another level of music. Some call this higher level progressive metal or progressive rock.
The band, which was formed in 1992, has eight albums to its name and all of them have been influenced by – what else – traditional heavy metal, jazz and also a bit of pop. Their third album, Land of the Freaks, was described by the band members as “a corny little heavy-pop-rock-Latin-world-jazz-avant-garde-metal-blues-record straight from hell.” The album in question features a lot of Indian-inspired tracks, adding even more layers to the band’s portfolio of sound.
Their latest album, entitled Cooking with Pagans, was released in 2014 and was a celebratory album, marking the 20-year anniversary of the release of their first album in 1994.
So celebrate the long weekend with a whole new twist on what you thought rock and heavy metal should sound like…though, as for the look, the band members have that pretty much down, with the long hair, beards and black clothes.
Live performance by the experimental rock band. April 2. Savino Live, Larnaca. 10pm. €15. Tel: 99-860304
