Exile sculpture unveiled in Ayia Napa

A sculpture by Hungarian artist Beata Rostas called Exile has been unveiled at the Ayia Napa Sculpture Park, the municipality announced on Monday.

In a statement, the municipality said the artist carved the sculpture during the 3rd Sculpture Symposium, organised by the Ayia Napa municipality.

The work depicts a couple in a tight embrace, with houses and a suitcase underneath it.

In this way, the statement said, the sculptor renders the drama of thousands of refugees from Syria, Afghanistan and other war-torn areas who abandon their homes with a suitcase in search of a better future.

It also serves as a reminder that Cyprus still has refugees 42 years later.
