Missing woman found dead in empty water tank (updated)

A 58-year-old woman missing from her home in Larnaca since last Tuesday has been found dead inside an empty water tank on the roof of an apartment building, police said.

Sofronia Paparidou was found by a resident of the building at around 7pm on Friday. The man told police he found a woman inside an empty water tank on the roof of the building on Pantelis Lekos Street in Larnaca’s Prodromos area.

State pathologist Sophocles Sophocleous examined the scene and ruled out foul play.

“The woman’s body did not have any external injuries and foul play has been ruled out,” he said.

A port mortem will be carried out on Monday in a bid to determine the cause of death.

Reports said Paparidou, a widow and mother of a son, had been suffering from a mental illness for the past few years.
