Football fan charged after throwing seat onto pitch

A 24-year-old Limassol man has been charged with violence at a sports venue, and damaging property after he threw a seat into the field, police said.

The man was a spectator at Saturday’s football match between APOEL Nicosia and Apollon Limassol at the GSP stadium in the capital, sitting in the north stand with supporters of the latter team.

At some point he allegedly removed a seat and threw it on to the pitch below. At the end of the game he was identified by stadium stewards and arrested by police.

He was taken to CID Nicosia and charged in writing.
