A bird caught in an illegal mist net

An 18-year-old man from Liopetri was arrested on Sunday morning in connection with the possession and use of illegal bird trapping devices.

According to police, members of the poach fighting unit of the police rapid response unit (MMAD) found the young man using the forbidden items in the rural area of Frakti near Liopetri, they said.

He was arrested and a bird trapping net, a device which mimics bird song consisting of a loudspeaker, a car battery, a transformer and a USB and about 60 metres of electric cable were seized as evidence.

With the written consent of the suspect police searched his house near the Frakti area and found and confiscated a hunting rifle.

The gun is allegedly owned by his 18-year-old cousin, also from Liopetri.

After being charged in writing the suspected poacher was charged in writing and released.
