US Assistant Secretary of State Victoria Nuland has reiterated her country`s support for the ongoing negotiation process in Cyprus.
Nuland, on a visit to Cyprus, was on Wednesday received by President Nicos Anastasiades.
“I am very happy to be back in Cyprus, I think you know how strongly the US supports the work that is being done on both sides of the island towards a settlement,” she said after the meeting.
Nuland said she had a very good meeting with Anastasiades, who gave her a very encouraging report on last night`s leaders` meeting. “It is clear that progress is being made to take the agreements that the leaders are making and bring them together and consolidate them”.
The US official said that they also talked about US – Cyprus bilateral relations and that she congratulated the president on the fact that Cyprus is preparing now to exit its IMF programme.
“We also noted that US investment in Cyprus is up sevenfold over the last two years”, she stressed and added that there was a lot of excitement in energy about what is happening here.
Nuland said that they also talked about security relations and regional relations.
The US official was also meeting Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci on Wednesday. (CNA)
