Safe holiday campaign launched in Napa

On Wednesday, British High Commissioner Ric Todd and the Mayor of Ayia Napa Yiannis Karousos launched the British consular summer safety campaign ‘Take Your Pic’.

It aims to encourage British youths, for whom Ayia Napa is a favourite destination, to choose to have a nice holiday with responsible behaviour. It aims to avoid having young travellers need consular assistance.

The campaign sets typical resort scenarios and encourages young travellers to choose between a #holidaywin and a #holidayfail. A #holidaywin might mean partying with friends and having an amazing night, whereas a #holidayfail leads to being hospitalised after drinking too much.

The campaign is conducted through digital media, the High Commissioner explained.

“#holidaywin is designed to encourage responsible behaviour at all levels of tourists, tour operators, the pubs and restaurants and the authorities,” he said. “It encourages young people to upload pictures of their holidays and learn about the country’s laws.”

During his meeting with the mayor, Todd discussed the excellent cooperation with the Ayia Napa municipality and the Cyprus Tourism Organisation (CTO), noting the productive partnership for the initiative ‘Cyprus Safer Tourism’.

“We are working together with the Cypriot authorities to ensure that Cyprus continues to be a safe tourist destination,” Todd said. “We follow the data for tourism and are really pleased to see that Cyprus registered an increase in tourist arrivals in March, which could mean that 2016 could be a record year for the island.”

He hoped that the rise would mean a positive experience for all tourists.
