UCy announces its first summer school programme

The University of Cyprus (UCy) announced it is accepting applications from Lyceum students for its summer school programme.

According to an announcement, the summer school programme, organised by UCy for the first time, is “an innovative programme for Cyprus, aimed at familiarising students with UCy” and to also bring them into direct contact with their scientific object of interest.

The university’s rector Constantinos Christofides, said that the summer school follows international summer schools standards.

“Its main purpose is to enhance the abilities of high school students, to ensure a high level programme focused on integrated and interdisciplinary approach, and modern practices,” Christofides said.

The programme is addressed to Lyceum students in the public and private sector. The aim is to give interested students the opportunity to study at the university for a week, to familiarise themselves with the institution, and its faculty and learn more about the subject they are interested in studying.

The summer school will operate for four weeks, from June 21 to July 16, at the campus of the UCy.

Each week courses on four different scientific fields will be offered, which vary from week to week. Each period, four different groups of students will follow the programme and each student will participate only in the field of his or her interest.

All students who will participate in the programme – regardless of city of residence – will be hosted at the dormitories of the UCy, and they will also be given three daily meals at the university’s restaurant.
Participants will also have the opportunity to earn a credit point, which will be able to utilise in their future studies, by taking a multiple choice exam, or by doing an assignment which will be evaluated by the faculty of the course the students chose.

Tuition fees are set at €390 per student per week. Applicants whose siblings are UCy students, or whose parents are UCy alumni, pay €340. In case two or more siblings are admitted to the summer school programme, tuition is set at €300 per student. No tuition fees apply for the enclaved students from the Rizokarpaso high school.

Deadline for applications is May 20, while available places will be filled on a first in first served basis.
