Events set far outside the normal box

There are a few art and music events on over the rest of the week which aim to look at things in a different way, to intrigue us into gazing outside the box, and to give us insight into certain matters.

First up tomorrow is the annual exhibition organised by the Unic Art, Design and Multimedia Society of the University of Nicosia to commemorate Earth Day, which has been celebrated on April 22 since 1970.

The event is created to celebrate the planet’s environment and raise public awareness about pollution and its effects on our Earth and us.

The exhibition consists of artwork created by students from the programmes of Graphic Communication, Applied Multimedia, Fine Art and Interior Design at the University of Nicosia.

There will be posters, collages, photographs, art installations, motion graphics videos and product designs.

Also on in Nicosia tomorrow will be an open discussion with Popi Nicolaou, an art teacher at the Kolossi Lyceum in Limassol, who will discuss her experience throughout the creation of the student artwork Immigrants, which won a double award in an international art competition by the prestigious Saatchi Gallery in London.

The art piece was created as part of the Global Shapers Community Nicosia’s Meet the Leader sessions, where influential individuals take to the stage and give talks.

Global Shapers Nicosia Hub is part of the Global Shapers Community, a worldwide network of more than 450 hubs around the world which are led by young people from 18 to 30 years old who are exceptional in their potential, their achievements and their drive to make a contribution to their communities.

The next out-of-the-box event is the visual concert Collapse which will take place on Saturday in Paphos.

The visual concert will aim to bring together projections of video art animation and a live performance of classical music.

Trio Dell’Arte, a classical chamber ensemble, will collaborate with Cypriot video artists Nicolas Iordanou and Sylvia Nicolaides as well as the animator Charalambos Margaritis to create an innovative proposal of artistic expression which is based on the balance of sound and image.
