Escaped suspect in extortion case captured

A 23-year-old man from Nicosia, who had escaped last month while appearing in court for a remand hearing, was arrested on Tuesday.
According to police reports, the 23-year-old, who had been arrested for a case of extorting money under false pretences, escaped on March 3 from the Limassol district court where he was taken for his remand hearing. Police said he had asked to go to the toilet and after officers removed his handcuffs, he hit the officer who was escorting him, and fled. An arrest warrant was issued against him.
Police said that in coordination with the Episkopi SBA, they located and arrested the suspect in Trachoni.
