New bout of ‘tourism’ training for taxi drivers

URBAN taxi drivers and the Cyprus Tourism Organisation (CTO) agreed on Tuesday to organise training programmes for interested taxi drivers with the aim of better serving tourists.

The move was decided at a meeting between a delegation of Nicosia urban taxi drivers and  CTO officials

“We have concluded that we will proceed with a plan, especially as regards the issue of education, directly after Easter to organise training programmes in all provinces aimed to provide all the necessary knowledge to solve problems and to taxi drivers so that they can serve the tourists who comes to Cyprus with a simple knowledge of the tourism product and the attractions that exist,” Deputy Director General of the CTO Annita Demetriadou announced after the meeting, adding that it had been a very constructive dialogue where all the problems facing taxi drivers were discussed.

“For us, the CTO and the taxi drivers are a link in the chain of services offered to tourists coming to Cyprus,” she added, indicating that everyone would need to work together to achieve the best possible results.

“After today’s meeting it seems that there is openness on the part of the CTO to collaborate with the associations of taxi drivers in the best interests of the tourists,” Panayiotis Kililis from the taxi drivers association said.
