Easter Tuesday in Nicosia

On Tuesday the Nicosia Municipality is organising an Easter event in Kaimakli for the whole family.

The event will start at 1.30pm with a performance by the 71st Scout Troop of Kaimakli marching band. The band will start off at the St Varvaras church and then march around the narrow streets of Kaimakli.

After the band has done its marching, you can then return to the church square at 2pm where you can enjoy some traditional souvla and drinks. While having your lunch you can listen to traditional songs and watch some traditional dancers.

At 3pm the youth choir of the Nicosia Municipality will do some singing until 3.30pm when traditional games will begin for adults and children, including sack and egg races.

At 5pm Nicosia Mayor Constantinos Yiorkadjis will welcome us all to the event and give out medals to the winners of the games.

The evening will continue, and conclude, with a performance by the Nicosia Municipality choir.

Also during the day, Julis Astreou Woven Textiles will be open and Astreou will be there to give a demonstration of traditional weaving. Charalambos Charalambous will also be present to show us how he makes the traditional wind instrument pithkiavli, while also playing a few melodies for us.

The traditional café will also be open, serving Cypriot coffee and machelepi.
