Women are increasingly turning to comedy, but it wasn’t always like that. When it comes to the pioneers for British women comics, Dawn French’s name stands out. Although she has taken on many comical roles, the one that most of us fondly remember is The Vicar of Dibley. To remind us of the role and the goings on in Dibley, the Stage One theatre group will be putting on a show from Tuesday until Saturday in Paphos.
The group has visited Dibley before, way back in 2013 and they thought it was about time they returned. This time they will perform the episode Vicar of Dibley in Love and Marriage.
The marriage is between Hugo and Alice, whose two bridesmaids are dressed up as Teletubbies. Just in case that wasn’t funny enough, at one point a woman bursts into the church and accuses the groom of being already married. Of course, she’s at the wrong place and the wrong wedding.
Now for the love part, Geraldine – the Vicar of Dibley – meets the young and charming Simon and thinks that she might just have found her happily ever after.
