Government spokesman Nikos Christodoulides said that the drop in unemployment to 12.1 per cent in March reflects a recovering economy, which is expected to further reduce the number of jobless.
Christodoulides who was citing Eurostat figures said that the unemployment rate fell in March by 4.1 percentage points in a year and 0.4 percentage points compared to the month before.
“Following a difficult effort over the past three years we see this declining trend in this area,” the government spokesman said. “This effort will continue until we reach a single digit (rate). It is important for this effort to continue without complacency so that we can achieve, what I’d like to believe, is a collective target.”
