This year’s solar car challenge set for June 26

The Cyprus Institute in cooperation with the Municipality of Nicosia is organising the 2016 Solar Car Challenge in the centre of the capital.

The race will take place Sunday, June 26, aiming to promote and raise the interest of the public, particularly of young people for the use of alternative energy resources.

The Solar Car Challenge, which has become an annual event, and is being organised for the seventh consecutive year, is open to all who wish to participate and experience the ultimate challenge of using the sun as the only fuel.

The solar cars with panels that absorb sunlight fuelling their engines with energy, will cross the streets Spyrou Kyprianou, Stasikratous, Vasilissis Freiderikis, Grivas Dighenis and Demosthenis Severis in the heart of Nicosia.

Anyone interested in participating can obtain further information about the rules and regulations of the race and the requirements to be met by solar cars, contact Chariklia Hephaestou at: phone +357 22 208702, email [email protected]
