Woman arrested after leaving daughter, 11, waiting outside pub in the early hours

A 36-year-old woman, foreign national, who lives in Nicosia was arrested early Sunday for alleged child endangerment and neglect after police said they found her 11-year-old daughter sitting outside an Oroklini pub waiting for her mother to finish drinking.

Police reports said that officers, following a tip off, found the 11-year-old at 5.30am sitting alone outside the pub, while her mother was inside drinking.

Officers could not adequately communicate with the mother as she was reportedly so drunk they couldn’t get any sense out of her. She was arrested and is to be investigated on charges of neglect and child endangerment of a minor under 15.

The 11-year-old was taken to the Oroklini police station where the social welfare department was notified.
