Akinci not among 6,000 invited to wedding of Erdogan’s daughter

Sumeyye Erdogan, daughter of Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan, and Selcuk Bayraktar

Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci was not among the 6,000 guests invited to the wedding of Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan’s daughter last weekend, reports from the north said on Tuesday.

Gokhan Altiner wrote in Turkish Cypriot daily Kibris Postasi that Akinci was not invited to the wedding.

He said that more than 6,000 people had been, including political leaders and representatives from various countries but Akinci had not even received an invitation.

This was confirmed by one of Akinci’s advisers Cenk Gurcag, the paper said.

“I can very clearly say that Mr Akinci did not participate in the wedding because he did not receive an invitation,” Gurcag said.
Altiner suggests it was a strange move on the part of Erdogan “given his sensitivities towards the Turkish Cypriots” and the “daughter country”.

Sumeyye Erdogan was married to Selcuk Bayraktar in Istanbul on Saturday.
