Police issue photos of Omonia fans wanted in connection with footie violence

Police were on Thursday searching for three or four individuals, all males, suspected of rioting on Wednesday ahead of the football Cup final.

A police bulletin said the individuals were wanted in connection with rioting, assault and causing real bodily harm, theft and malicious damage of property.

Pictures of the suspects were released to the public.

The disturbances occurred outside the Omonia fan club premises in Pallouriotissa, Nicosia.

Police urged anyone with information on the suspects to contact Nicosia CID at 22-802222, call their nearest police station or the citizens hotline at 1460.

Omonia fans rioting in Nicosia before the football match, held in Limassol, set fire to tyres, damaged a number of parked vehicles, and threw rocks at police, who responded with tear gas.

On Wednesday, police had arrested a 30-year-old woman for rioting and assaulting an officer.
